Learn about natural dying techniques with fiber artists’ Mariana Pinar and Lyndsi Schuesler at our Direct Flower Dying workshop. First, bundle dye silk scarves using flowers and vegetables. While these steam to reveal vibrant colors and patterns, we’ll embellished tote bags pounding and pressing flowers to extract natural pigments; transferring the shape and color of the plants onto fabric. Each participant will leave with TWO completed projects – a scarf and a tote bag – and the know-how to explore natural dying techniques on their own.
Mariana Pinar is an artist and researcher from Granada, Spain. Her work deals with weaving and writing, but she also feels comfortable playing with yarn, fabrics, and dyes in many different ways. She just graduated from an MFA in Fiber from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2016 and currently works full time in her studio practice.
Originally from Salem, MA, Lyndsi Schuesler received her bachelor’s degree in Sculpture/3D Studies from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth in 2011. She then worked with paper and other fiber materials in her own practice before starting her studies in Fiber at Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2016. Her recent work utilizes wool felt to examine interaction and relation.
