Family-friendly self-guided prompts and building activities will be open to visitors in the Cranbrook Art Museum Art Lab on Saturdays and Sundays through September 19, 2021.
Available activities may include:
- Create small, memorial pouches for The Healing Memorial project, organized by the City of Detroit Office of Arts, Culture and Entrepreneurship, the Detroit Riverfront and Cranbrook Art Museum to recognize all that has been lost over the past year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Conceived by artist (and Cranbrook Academy of Art alumna) Sonya Clark, it is an interpretation of her Beaded Prayer exhibit, which has traveled the world for more than a decade. All pouches created will be collected and become part of a tapestry of memories to be displayed at Detroit’s TCF Center in a permanent living memorial that was first unveiled on Aug. 31. A second round of pouches are being collected for the second phase of the installation in October. Funding for this project is made possible by the generous support of the Ford Fund, TCF Bank, the City of Detroit, Detroit Riverfront Conservancy and Cranbrook Art Museum.
- Design your own chair, inspired by the works you can see in our current exhibition, With Eyes Opened: Cranbrook Academy of Art Since 1932.
