Poolside Performances are an exploration of experimental music, movement, and mark-making. The Alkhemy of Awakened Sound is a performance debut of Na Bonsai’s graphic score series exploring archetypes of human nature through the lens of awareness. The graphic scores were created in exploration of Na’s printmaking practice as a reflection on the many different ways of expressing the cosmological blueprint. The three songs on her recently released EP, Alkhemy, guide the solo performance, which features guitar, vocals, sampling and textural instrumentation amid the verdant surroundings of the Cranbrook Art Museum grounds near the Triton Pool.
Na Bonsai is a multi-disciplinary artist, producer, and liberation technologist from Detroit, MI. She imbibes her sonic practice with cultural awareness and a deep commitment to connection. With jazz as an early influence, her musical ancestry is filled with powerful feminine energy across generations, counting artists from Alice Coltrane to Grace Jones to Georgia Anne Muldrow as vital parts of her musical lineage. Gaining momentum from leading the indie-soul band Honey Monsoon, Na Bonsai utilizes composition, beat-making, printmaking, and a host of other mediums as an open invitation to her spiritual practice. Understanding sound as an extension of herself, she transmutes the intimacy, vulnerability, and empowerment of her day-to-day life into her projects.
You can find Na at nabonsai.com, on Spotify, Apple music, Bandcamp and Instagram.
Free and Open to all, advanced registration is encouraged.
