Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Aug. 30, 2016 — On September 18, Cranbrook Art Museum will open its latest exhibition, Unsettled: The Work of Edward Gorey, on view in the Museum’s deSalle Gallery through March 12, 2017. The exhibition is a collaboration between Cranbrook Art Museum and the Cranbrook Academy of Art Library.Gorey is known for his masterful pen-and-ink drawings that illustrate his captivating books, conjuring a vaguely Edwardian world of handcars, boater hats, and Dickensian children.The exhibition at Cranbrook Art Museum will feature many of Gorey’s classic texts as well as his experiments with the physical structure of the book—split-pages, doubled-books, accordion formats, postcard sets, and miniature books.
Bloomfield Hills, Mich., July 18, 2016— On July 31, Cranbrook Art Museum will kick-off the local tour of the public artwork In Search of the Truth (The Truth Booth). The Truth Booth is a portable, inflatable video recording studio in the shape of a giant speech bubble. A Cause Collective project by artists Ryan Alexiev, Jim Ricks, Will Sylvester and Hank Willis Thomas, its interior is equipped to compile video responses by hundreds of people from different cultural backgrounds as they complete the sentence: “The Truth Is…”

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MICH., March 17, 2016 — The 2016 Graduate Degree Exhibition of Cranbrook Academy of Art opens to the public on April 17, and will showcase work from more than 80 graduating Cranbrook Academy of Art students. The exhibition features pieces that are the culmination of two years of studio work from a diverse group of students who are poised to become tomorrow’s creative leaders. The exhibition will run from April 17 – May 15, 2016 at Cranbrook Art Museum.
Bloomfield Hills, Mich., February 10, 2016 – Cranbrook Academy of Art has named Vivian Beer (Metalsmithing ‘04) the 2016 recipient of the Alumni Achievement Award. This is the fifth time the Academy has bestowed the award, which seeks to recognize alumni who have achieved excellence early in their career. Sonya Clark (Fiber '95) was the first recipient in 2011, Susan York (Ceramics ’95) received the award in 2012, Laura Heyman (Photography '98) received the award in 2013 and our last recipient was Fabio Fernández (Sculpture ’02) in 2014.
Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Feb. 9, 2016 -- On February 28, 2016, Liz Cohen and Eric Crosley will present the combined lecture and reading, "Liz Cohen, Eric Crosley & the Politics of the Self," at 4pm at Cranbrook Art Museum. Liz Cohen is an Artist-in-Residence and Head of the Photography Department at Cranbrook Academy of Art. Her solo exhibition, Him, a project by Liz Cohen, is currently on display at Cranbrook Art Museum through March 6, 2016.
Cranbrook Art Museum and Anders Ruhwald, Cranbrook Academy of Art Artist-in-Residence, were each awarded separate grants yesterday from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, as part of its Detroit Knight Arts Challenge.Cranbrook Art Museum was awarded a $60,000 matching grant to create a Detroit tour of the public art installation In Search of the Truth (The Truth Booth). The ambitious public program will also result in a new presentation at the Museum in the fall of 2016.Anders Ruhwald, Cranbrook Academy of Art Artist-in-Residence and Head of the Ceramics Department, was awarded a $25,000 matching grant for his project Unit 1: 3583 Dubois.
