 re.\n\nYolande Daniels is an Associate Professor in Architecture at the Ma
 ssachusetts Institute of Technology. She received a B.S.Arch from City Col
 lege of New York and a M.Arch from Columbia University. She is a recipient
  of the Rome Prize in Architecture and a fellow of the Independent Study P
 rogram of the Whitney American Museum of Art in studio practice and cultur
 al studies.\n\nDaniels’ practice combines independent design-research an
 d architecture and design in studioSUMO\, which she co-founded in 1995. Da
 niels’ independent design research explores the spatial effects of race 
 and gender in the built environment\, focusing on revealing spatial narrat
 ives of resistance and autonomy.\n\nHer practice has been recognized for d
 esign excellence by the American Academy of Arts and Letters\, New York St
 ate Council on the Arts\, New York Foundation for the Arts\, Japan Nationa
 l Design Council\, German National Design Council\, Chicago Athenaeum\, AI
 A New York City Chapter\, AIA New York State\, the NY Architectural League
  Emerging Voices and League Prize\, the Architectural Record Design Vangua
