  6pm for a free\, public lecture from artist Amna Ashgar. Cranbrook Academ
 y of Art’s 2023-24 Public Lecture Series is free and open to the public 
 in the deSalle Auditorium at Cranbrook Art Museum. Please note the museum
 ’s galleries will be closed\, enter through the Cranbrook Academy of Art
  Library doors.\n\nAmna Asghar’s work looks to the American experience t
 hrough a multitude of cultural motifs: from her family’s Pakistani popul
 ar culture ephemera to Disney movies to Jean-Léon Gérôme’s orientalis
 t paintings\, to Hudson River School works\, to currents of contemporary p
 olitical thought. Asghar draws from her own life in the Detroit area where
  she grew up and now resides\, making sophisticated works that mix imagery
  across cultures\, creating conversation between communities.
