The new Cranbrook Art Museum was completed in 1942, and its state-of-the-art construction made it a destination for museum directors from around the world. It was a success with students and the community alike, and by the fall of 1948 the museum estimated that it would serve a record high of nearly 50,000 visitors that fiscal year.
