Inspired by this weaving craft? You’ll enjoy taking a virtual tour through our recent exhibition, In the Vanguard: Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, 1950-1969. The Haystack school was and still is famous as an incubator for artists working in fiber arts, ceramics, and other mediums. You’ll find many weavings and textile pieces in this exhibition.

Gather together supplies to create your weaving. You’ll need one larger piece of paper/felt/cardboard to serve as the base for your weaving.

Fold your main paper in half, and cut to make slits (don’t cut all the way to the edge to keep the paper intact).

Start adding your woven strips! Guide your strips over and under to make a pattern.
